ICSE is the short form for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education.

This an examination which is conducted by the 'Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination' (CISCE) .

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination' (CISCE)  is a national level private board of Education in India that was established in 1958.

The main mission of the council was to serve the children of India, by providing them with good quality of education.

What are difference between CBSE and ICSE ?

These board have some difference on the basis of these criteria

On the base of Syllabus

CBSE syllabus is found to be more precise and to the point. The syllabus, of CBSE board is based on particularly theoretical knowledge and this  will be really helpful if you are preparing for competitive exams like JEE or NEET etc.

ICSE Syllabus is considered to be more extensive and it is based on theoretical with practical knowledge. This will be helpful to you if you are going to foreign for further education and in research sectors.

Medium of study

CBSE Syllabus is available in two medium English and Hindi. So it is found to be much easier, well structured and compact as compared to ICSE. While ICSE follows a higher level of English language than the rest of the board.

On the base of Acceptness

CBSE Board marks are widely accepted nearly all over the universities irrespective of the course you are opting for.
ICSE Certification is much preferred. For foreign schools and universities.

On Difficulty Level –

ICSE Syllabus is considered to be more difficult than CBSE. That is because ICSE syllabus has more Co- curriculum  and concepts that can be applied to practicals as well.

Availability/Transferability –

CBSE schools are available everywhere in the India. CBSE is best for transferable job's worker. It is better if you choose CBSE because there are more school of CBSE than ICSE schools in the country.

On base of  Subjects –

ICSE have more subjects than CBSE. ICSE offers a variety of languages with subjects for Fashion Design, Agriculture, Home Science and Cookery for creative minds. ICSE syllabus can be your best option if your aim is to become  an all-rounder.

Teaching Technique –

Both CBSE and ICSE boards have very well teaching style in an active manner. Both boards are trying to implement a teaching methodology where students learn through experience and experimentation instead of following rote learning.

In India, many parents feel that the CBSE board needs to improve their overall teaching technique when compared to ICSE board.

ICSE prefers detailed study with extra curriculum  and focuses more on English Literature and English Language.

Marking/Grading System –

The Grading System for CBSE is Alphabetical based. While for ICSE, the marks are shown in numbers which gives a clear idea to students as to how much he/she has actually scored.

On the mode of teaching

CBSE affiliated schools allow non-regular candidates to appear for CBSE Exams. But it is not possible for ICSE affiliated schools. Students have to be from ICSE affiliated schools in order to appear for ICSE exams.

Conclusion

As you saw that the both boards have their advantages and drawbacks and you can choose it according your need and carrier goal.
In ICSE school, they focus on English than CBSE. The biggest advantage for ICSE students is application-based learning.
This will help you think outside the box and innovate, rather than just being confined to limited context. If you want to sit for any international exam, ICSE will be helpful.
All India government exams are based on NCERT which follow in CBSE syllabus.
CBSE Maths and Science is quite comprehensive for entrance exams. In India for science-based fields is based on NCERT base.
My personal opinion is that in the future, there should be a board which includes all the best from both board which fullfil your all types of carrier dreams.
In future, you need to develop skills that keep you all rounder.1
